The Scot made an emotional retirement announcement in the lead up to the Australian Open by admitting the tournament could be his last and he looked to be crashing out in Melbourne.
While the former world number one is hoping to continue until Wimbledon this summer, his horrendous injury problems could mean his run will be his final taste of Grand Slam tennis.
Murray is currently playing the 22nd seed Roberto Bautista Agut in his first round match on the hard courts.
