Ronnie O’Sullivan explains reason behind bizarre Australian accent in recent interviews

There’s rarely a dull moment when Ronnie O’Sullivan is around.

Snooker’s controversial world no.1 often lacks interest in the sport – and so he must find ways to entertain himself.

But even by O’Sullivan’s standards, his latest stunt has been rather bizarre.

‘The Rocket’ has gone full Aussie in recent interviews for no apparent reason, other than boredom.

He explained to talkSPORT: “I just try and find ways to entertain myself. It’s just the snooker world and the way they are.

“Last year, I was giving one word answers. This year I just thought I’d go Aussie.

“When you’re Aussie you just feel so positive. I thought I’d just have a bit of a laugh with them.”

The 43-year-old is a regular critic of the sport – and he admits the whole snooker industry is incredibly tedious to him.

“I enjoy playing; I just don’t enjoy the grind of it,” he added.

“I suppose I’m a little bit like Kimi Raikkonen – I just want to play snooker. I don’t want to talk to the press about snooker.

“I’ll talk about anything else, I just get fed up talking about the game and who’s playing well. I just feel like saying, ‘Leave me alone!’”

The Englishman is currently enjoying a break from the game following a mixed season.

He returned to the top of the world rankings and surpassed 1000 career centuries – the first player in history to do so – but suffered a shock defeat in the opening round of the World Snooker Championship to amateur James Cahill.
