The Kazakh is making his return ahead of a potential trilogy with Canelo Alvarez
Gennady Golovkin will fight Steve Rolls on June 8 at Madison Square Garden in New York, it was officially announced on Tuesday night.
The former unified middleweight champion will be having his first bout since suffering the first defeat of his career to Canelo Alvarez in their September rematch.
Since then, GGG has inked a new broadcast deal with DAZN and is aiming for a trilogy bout against Canelo later this year.
First however, he must overcome the largely unknown Rolls, who is unbeaten in 19 fights.
“I am very excited to be returning to the ring and bringing the ‘Big Drama Show’ back to Madison Square Garden. The Garden’s fans are fantastic,” said Golovkin.
“I love boxing and I promise to bring the best of me to everyone who will be watching me in an all-action fight with Steve Rolls.
“I am very happy that GGG Promotions has a new home at DAZN.”
